Our Practice is proud to be part of the Scarborough and Ryedale Research Hub, supported by the National Institute for Health Research (NIHR). We are part of a network of GP Practices in Scarborough and Ryedale who are keen to host Research Studies. All patients that are registered with our practice are able to take part in studies if they wish to do so, helping to shape the future of health and social care.
From time to time you may be asked by a member of staff to consider taking part in a study that may be suitable for you; you may receive a letter, see a leaflet in the Practice or read details on our website of a research project.
Each study will be different and involvement will vary. It may be a questionnaire, an interview with a researcher or taking part in a clinical trial. All the information that you need will be given to you and you will have ample time to decide if you wish to take part – this is entirely voluntary and you can withdraw from the study at any time without giving a reason if you prefer. Taking part in a study does not affect your routine care in any way.

We have successfully undertaken a study to look at proxy decision making in carers for patients that have dementia and then go on to develop cancer, run by the University of Sheffield. We are also looking in to take part in a large study looking at patients with Chronic Kidney Disease (CKD) and taking a small dose of aspirin to see if it prevents heart problems from occurring, run by the University of Southampton. There are more studies that we are hoping to take undertake in the future as research remains very high on our agenda.
